| ¡Tango!
Tango was born on the meanest streets of 19th Century Buenos Aires. At first, men danced with men to show off their style while they waited their turn in the brothels. But tango would soon become the essence of sexual chemistry between a man and a woman.
The ebullient personality of singer Carlos Gardel (1887-1935), tango’s patron saint, brought this sensual dance to middle and upper class audiences. Today it is a staple of ballroom dancing and an art form infused with new influences, including jazz and classical music.
